Intense Pulsed Light (IPL™) Technology

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL™) technology utilizes multiple waves of light to improve a variety of benign skin conditions such as facial skin imperfections, signs of aging, dark spots, red spots, hyperpigmentation, birthmarks, unwanted hair, rosacea, freckles, some small unsightly veins, and other blemishes. In some cases, IPL™ can also decrease the size of pores. It is a gentle procedure that is applied over the course of five to six 20-minute treatments, generally spaced two to three weeks apart.

What is photo rejuvenation?

The new procedure is called photo rejuvenation. IPL™ photo rejuvenation is a non-invasive skin care solution that erases skin damage without recuperation time. Intense Pulse Light (IPL™) can treat a wide range of facial concerns safely and effectively.

How is IPL™ photo rejuvenation performed?

During IPL™ photo rejuvenation, a cold gel is applied to the treatment area. An anesthetic cream may also be applied to the treatment area, but it is usually not necessary. The specially designed IPL™ handpiece is gently pressed to your skin in order to administer controlled pulses of light. Some patients have reported a slight stinging during treatment, comparing the sensation to that of a rubber band snapped against the skin. In certain instances, patients may be given dark glasses to protect their eyes from the pulses of light. Once treatment is completed, patients experience long-lasting results with few adverse effects.

Why are multiple IPL™ photo rejuvenation treatments performed?

Multiple IPL™ photo rejuvenation treatments are performed in order to ensure low-risk, gradual treatment of various conditions based on their severity. Having the treatment divided into several visits also allows patients to have no recuperation time following each visit.

How does IPL™ photo rejuvenation compare to other treatments?

While there are specialized lasers designed to treat various types of skin conditions, none can match the long-term improvement and positive effects of IPL™ photo rejuvenation treatment. And unlike other laser treatments, IPL™ photo rejuvenation does not require any recuperation time, not interrupting your busy lifestyle.

What conditions can IPL™ photo rejuvenation treat?

IPL™ photo rejuvenation can treat a number of problems including sun-damage, unwanted hair, dull complexion, enlarged pores, and other imperfections affecting the different areas of the body. Below are just a few conditions that can be treated using IPL™ photo rejuvenation.

Spider veins, broken capillaries, and benign vascular lesions

IPL™ photo rejuvenation can effectively treat broken capillaries, spider veins, and other problems with unsightly broken veins. Your skin care specialist may recommend a different type of treatment to deal with vascular blemished depending on your individual case.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a condition caused by chronic flushing and dilated blood vessels causing people's faces to be red. The skin condition can also cause blisters or pimples. IPL™ photo rejuvenation can safely and effectively treat redness and dilated blood vessels with long-term results.

Treatment for Unwanted Hair

Imagine not having to shave, tweeze, wax, or go through electrolysis again. IPL™ photo rejuvenation offers a gentle, non-invasive, long-lasting solution to unwanted hair on the face, back, legs, bikini line, or any other body area. IPL™ photo rejuvenation can only treat hair with pigment and thus cannot be used to remove white hair.

Are there any potential side effects?

Negative side effects following IPL™ photo rejuvenation are generally rare. Limiting exposure to the sun prior to and following each visit helps minimize the risks of complications. Some patients may some local swelling or minor redness in the treatment area, but this typically goes away after a few hours. In some rare instances, some bruising or blistering occurs, but this usually resolves itself quickly. The skin in the treatment area may appear lighter or darker following IPL™ photo rejuvenation, but pigment generally returns to normal within a few weeks.

What results should I expect from IPL™ photo rejuvenation?

IPL™ photo rejuvenation provides a long-term for various conditions. One of the great benefits of IPL™ photo rejuvenation is that patients require no recuperation time following each visit.
