Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C., Area Facelift Surgery

Most people think that only older patients should be interested in a facelift. Our Maryland cosmetic surgeons at Chesapeake Plastic Surgery Associates often advise patients that, in reality, anyone who has been exposed to large amounts of sun or stress can benefit from a facelift procedure.

Benefits of a Facelift

For patients who have developed wrinkled, creased skin on the face, neck or forehead along with fat deposits and folds around the jaws and jowls, a facelift can provide dramatic aesthetic results. While a facelift can't stop the aging process, many of our Baltimore and Washington, D.C., area facelift patients find that it can "turn back the clock." The fact is, most facelift-like procedures are performed in a much younger age group (ages 42 to 54) because the procedures are less invasive and aesthetics are much better.

When considering facial surgery, it is best to think of the face in thirds: upper, middle, and lower. The upper face includes the forehead, brow, and, to a lesser extent, the upper eyelids. The middle face deals with tightening the corners of the mouth, the smile lines and the cheeks. The lower face includes the jowl line and neck. It is best treated by a traditional facelift. Maryland area patients are often impressed by the dramatic results facelifts can provide.

After Facelift Surgery

Depending on the extent of the work performed, recovery time can range from a few days to several weeks for patients receiving a facelift. Maryland patients often experience some swelling and minor discomfort, but these symptoms usually only last a few days, and stitches are usually removed within a week. Most Baltimore and Washington, D.C., area facelift patients are back to work in 10 to 14 days, and may resume their normal activities in about a month.

Endoscopic Facelift Surgery

The first two areas, the middle face and forehead, are best treated by endoscopic technologies that utilize tiny incisions hidden in the scalp. A small 4mm TV camera is placed through the incision. This lets the surgeon see all the important structures, so that the nerves and blood vessels can be protected from injury while the muscle, fat, and skin are carefully elevated. Any time the endoscope can be used, the bruising is less and the recovery is quicker and less discomforting. Our expert cosmetic surgeons offer endoscopic surgery to our Baltimore and Washington, D.C., area facelift patients.

For some of our younger facelift patients, it is sometimes possible to even use the endoscope in the lower face. In this case, the muscles of the neck can be carefully lifted and a suture suspension added to give a great neckline, all with minimal, well-hidden incisions.
