For our patients, eyelid surgery is the preferred treatment for removing bags under the eyes or drooping eyelids. These conditions can add years to your appearance and even impair your vision, but eyelid surgery patients can find a solution to this problem at Chesapeake Plastic Surgery Associates.
Our patients seeking eyelid surgery are often comforted by the fact that eyelid surgery may be performed under local or light general anesthesia on an outpatient basis at our offices in Maryland. Eyelid surgery is a safe, effective procedure and causes minimal scarring and discomfort. To begin eyelid surgery, your doctor will make tiny incisions hidden along the lines of your eyelids. Using these incisions, the surgeon will remove skin tissue, reshape muscles, and remove excess fat. The surgical incisions are then sealed using fine sutures that will render the scars practically invisible.
In the lower eyelid, it is frequently possible to eliminate all external scars by approaching the fat pads behind the eyelid, so called transconjunctival blepharoplasty. Eyelid surgery of this kind can be performed alone or in conjunction with laser surgery to tighten the skin and achieve better wrinkle control. This approach is popular among younger people and recovery is quite fast.
Sometimes our eyelid surgery patients require additional surgery at the corners of the eyelid. If the corners need to be tightened and lifted, the surgeon will perform a cantopexy.
Most eyelid surgery patients are back to their normal routines within two weeks, although complete recovery may take a week or two longer. Bruising, swelling, and some minor discomfort are typical during the recovery process. These conditions can often be alleviated by using pain medication or a cold compress.
Although eyelid surgery can make you look and feel years younger, it is not a substitute for good skin care. For our patients, skin care procedures will help maintain the look that eyelid surgery helps to create. Since eyelid surgery does not eliminate wrinkles, crow's feet, or dark circles under the eyes, our skin care experts can help you to find an effective skin care routine.
